Craft and Structure (≈28% of R&W questions) tests how well students understand vocabulary in context and how texts are built to convey meaning. It includes three question types: Words in Context (choosing the most logical word/phrase or interpreting a word's meaning), Text Structure and Purpose (analyzing how a text is organized or what a part of it accomplishes), and Cross-Text Connections (comparing perspectives across two related passages).

On the Digital SAT’s single Reading & Writing section, the items commonly called “writing questions” come from the domain Standard English Conventions. These questions have you edit a 25-150-word passage, so it follows core grammar, usage, and punctuation rules—especially the Boundaries skill (fixing run-ons, comma splices, and fragments) and Form, Structure, and Sense (agreement, modifiers, parallelism, etc.).
